Who We Are
Formerly known as the Bellevue College Programming Club, we're now the Association for Computing Machinery at Bellevue College (BC ACM). We're a student-run group dedicated to helping BC students learn and grow in the tech world. Our mission is to make tech education accessible and exciting, and we do this by hosting a range of events like tech panels, annual hackathons, and more to keep our community engaged and inspired.
My Mission
Upon joining the BC ACM, I was assigned to lead the user experience and interface redesign for the club's website. As the lead designer, I mentored a trainee by creating assignments, having her shadow me, and teaching her design principles. Together, we brainstormed ideas for the new website layout.
print('Our Goal')
A sleek, functional website that captures the essence of a true developer with a dark-mode interface, familiar blue accents, clear CTAs, and distinct site sections. The intuitive navigation allows current students and prospective members to explore, feel the spirit of the BC ACM club, and get inspired and excited about joining.

Getting Started
I reviewed the existing website to determine which pages should be included in the new design. I also explored platforms like Dribbble and Behance for inspiration, focusing on elements and layouts from university and club websites that could improve the redesign.
I tasked my trainee with creating a Pinterest mood board to gather designs, art, typography, and other inspirations. This exercise aimed to integrate both our creative visions into the final website design.
Deploying New Technology
Constantly seeking new design trends and technologies, I decided to incorporate Relume, a site builder that integrates AI, into my design process. My goal was to use AI as an ally, not a replacement for my creative skills. In this project, I leveraged Relume to generate a sitemap and mid-fidelity wireframes, which helped streamline the process and reduce production time by at least a week and a half.
After detailing the website's purpose, the club's mission and values, and the desired pages, Relume generated a sitemap based on my input. I then refined it to better align with my vision for the project.

Mid-Fidelity Wireframes
With the full site map completed, the vision for the website became clear. This served as my starting point for creating each individual page and determining its content. I kept the site map readily available as a reference to identify gaps and prioritize content, ensuring a cohesive design.

Brand Identity
<!— TODO: Implement dark mode feature for better UX —>
Before finalizing the design and deliverables, I wanted to experiment with color, particularly by incorporating the school colors. I focused on pairing the signature blue with a deep black, reminiscent of the dark interfaces common in source code editors. I explored different shades of blue to find the one that best complemented the black background. As a designer, I emphasized using color effectively to create a functional website, with the blue accents highlighting clear CTAs and aiding user navigation.
Keep Calm and Carry On
Initially, I designed both mobile and desktop screens, but due to time constraints and the projected workload, I decided to focus solely on the desktop version for now. After finalizing the deliverables, I handed off my designs to a peer in BC ACM, who currently translating everything into code.
Status Update
I remain an active member of BC's ACM club and hope to contribute to the backend or frontend development as the website progresses. The Web Dev team is still working on the site, and I'll be sure to share the link once everything is finalized!
